In 2005, Lee and Charlotte counties completed the Bi-County Corridor Study from Interstate 75 (I-75) in Lee County west along Colonial Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Parkway and north along Burnt Store Road to a connection at I-75 in Charlotte County.  Building upon this project, Lee County is now beginning a PD&E Study for improvement alternatives of Colonial Boulevard (SR 884/CR 884) from west of McGregor Boulevard to east of I-75.

The purpose of the PD&E Study is to provide documented environmental and engineering analyses to assist Lee County, as well as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in reaching a decision on the type, location and conceptual design of the necessary improvements in order to accommodate future traffic demand in a safe and efficient manner.  This project will be submitted through the Efficient Transportation Decision Making (ETDM) process.  The PD&E Study also satisfies the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other Federal requirements in order to qualify the project for Federal-aid funding of future development phases of the project.

I-75 editThe project begins with data collection which will help to guide the various alternatives that will be proposed for the Colonial Boulevard improvements.  As the data becomes available, we will share the information with the public so that they may understand the reasoning behind elimination and selection of proposed alternatives.  This project is in the primary phase of improving Colonial Boulevard.  Funding for the construction of these improvements has not yet been secured.
